Our popular Zunil Birds Necklaces are back. You can wear it long or short. In the model photos the necklaces are all worn short. See Material and Dimensions below to learn more about the size. The adjustable knot is shown further down.
Each necklace is one of a kind. They have hand-embroidered textile from the village of Zunil and Santiago Atitlan. The necklace combines vintage Zunil textile with the beautiful, colorful, and embroidered birds from Santiago.
The indigenous community of Santiago Atitlán town are experts in embroidering birds using their ancestors' techniques.
The Zunil cintas are long ribbons that Mayan women sometimes wear braided into their hair or for other decorative uses. It is a very special textile and the process of making them authentically is very difficult. Even more so, it is difficult to find authentic Zunil cintas.
We buy our bird embroideries and our vintage textile directly from the makers so your support will enable us to keep buying their beautiful handicrafts and support their art.
We have matched the textile in a colorful, modern combination and added our classic ceramic bead lines.
All of our jewelry is handmade by Mayan artisans in Guatemala. Your support has a direct impact on the opportunities and welfare of these artisan communities.
