This Ceremonial Aguacatán Shoulder Piece brings together colourful textile, silver-set jade and sweeping strands of red ceramic beads. Embroidered birds crown the shoulders, while geometric patterns and long beaded fringes create a striking silhouette full of texture and movement.

A Textile Rooted in Tradition

At the heart of the piece are two cotton textile panels from Aguacatán, Huehuetenango. Their intricate diamonds, zigzags and chevrons belong to the town’s ceremonial textile tradition. Vibrant shades of pink, orange, green, blue and yellow stand out against black borders, revealing new details with every glance.

Embroidered Birds on Each Shoulder

A brightly embroidered bird spreads its wings across each shoulder panel. Stitched in vivid colours against a dark background, these birds frame the neckline beautifully and echo the rich palette of the textile below.

Jade Framed in Silver

Two rectangular jadeite stones, one on each side, are carefully set in Guatemalan sterling silver. Their dark, polished surfaces bring a quiet contrast to the colourful textile, while the silver surrounds catch the light.

Cascading Beads and Fringed Details

Layers of handmade red ceramic beads sweep across the chest, punctuated by warm golden-toned accents. The strands form a generous, flowing drape that moves with you.

Each long textile panel ends in a fringe of matching red ceramic beads, finished with golden-toned accents. These fringes extend the lines of the textile and add a playful swaying movement to the piece.
