Update from the heart of the Mayan worldโœจ๐Ÿ’š

Hi there!๐Ÿ˜

It's been a while since we updated you on our little family-business in Guatemala.

So, what have we been up to lately and how is everything in Guatemala? Also we have some very exciting news about our Tikal Earrings.
We will keep it brief and hopefully interesting.ย
ย

Wholesale

We have been doing wholesale for a while but not in the most structured way. In 2020, we were contacted by a popular wholesale platform who asked if we wanted our shop featured on their wholesale platform.

We were busy with other things (a pandemic shutting down our two shops, finding a new place for our shops and workshop and so on).

But we were finally ready to open shop in April 2021, so we've been busy, keeping up with orders in there recently.

We have created this packaging for our wholesale orders. The packaging both protects our handmade earrings and bracelets and it also tells the story of our business on the back of the cards.ย

We still do wholesale outside of this platform as we have so much unique jewelry that we cannot fit everything in there.

If you are interested in wholesale of handmade jewelry, please don't hesitate to contact us here:

ย

We are very pleased to do wholesale orders because our goal is to maintain the Mayan culture and art by adding a modern and wearable touch to it.

Wholesale is really a great way to get this message out and at the same time give employment to Mayan artisans here in Guatemala.ย

Custom pieces

Besides the making of our popular earrings and necklaces, we have also been keeping our artisans busy with custom pieces like the ones shown below.ย

The above piece is embroidered wall-art with ceramic beads and was made for one of our wholesale clients, Tina.ย

The piece is Tina'sย beautiful logo that she ordered custom-made as part of relaunching her shop under a new name.ย

We might be doing something very special with her soon (hint; it starts with GIVE and ends with AWAY๐Ÿฅณ)

It is handmade by Marรญa from our artisan community in Solola.ย Above is a little peek into the embroidery process.ย

At the moment, Jaime, artist and founder, is designing a lot of well-pieces for our artisans to create.

For now, all we can say is that they are inspired by many indigenous cultures of the Americas. They are ABSOLUTELY incredible and unique.ย

As you may know, most of our jewelry is one-of-a-kind. Thisย above necklaceย is actually a semi-replica of a design that Jaime made several years ago.

We were contacted by a girl, Maggie, who had admired her friend's necklace (very similar to the above) for a while. So she asked if we could make one for her that was similar.ย

Of course, Jaime couldn't say no to that challenge and it sent him down memory lane when he created the original collection of these necklaces.ย

All our textiles are absolutely unique and most are vintage. So the biggest challenge was to find a beautiful and similar piece of textile to the original that looks like this:ย

ย

What do you think? Did we hit the nail on the head?

If you want to know how to get custom pieces like these or even smaller pieces of jewelry (earrings, bracelets, necklaces etc.), please reach out to us here:

The family

ย In our little family, we have also been keeping busy with attending our beautiful shop in the heart of Antigua, Guatemala. Here's a little corner of our shop in Antigua:

Margarita, the oldest of the three Los Colores kids, lives in Colombia. She had the chance to visit us for a couple of weeks in March/April. We hadn't seen her in over 2 years before this so it was a very nice family-reunion.ย

The below picture is from one of our morning walks with our three doggos to Cerro de la Cruz which is a beautiful viewpoint of Antigua. From the left: Marina, Nicolas, and Margarita.

Travellers and tourists are starting to come back to Guatemala. Borders are completely open (with vaccine or COVID test). But it's still nothing like pre-pandemic times.ย

Restrictions and COVID measures are still in effect. Vaccine program is running but there is a lack of vaccines in the country so it's not moving very fast.ย

We are taking it day by day and hoping things will improve soon. We are beyond grateful to everyone supporting us online, in the shop, or via wholesale.

It means that we can keep supporting our core group of artisans with dignified employment.

ย What's next?

In the world of Los Colores, we are currently working on creating something very special. It's a new earring style which is similar to our most popular earrings, the Tikal dangle, beaded earrings (to the right in the photo).

But here's the COOL thing. It's made with smaller beads and therefore lighter than ever before (0.14oz/4g). We JUST got the samples in. Here is an EXSCLUSIVE sneak peek (the new design is to the left).

We cannot say exactly yet when these will launch but they are something we've been working on for a long time because we know that some earring-lovers have more sensitive ears than others.ย

This new design is like wearing AIR. They weigh next to nothing. We are SO excited to be able to offer this very soon.

We are also launching other beautiful and lightweight earrings in a couple of weeks.

Until then, see the latest jewelry from our Spring collection here:ย

Stay tuned and keep an eye out for your inbox. Our e-mail subscribers get exclusive access to new collections before anyone else!
